Recently, I’ve written and spoken a lot about doing the things we love, and how we should do those things we love because that’s where our passions lay, and passion is a very important key to being successful at anything.
Over time I’ve thought more about this, and now have a deeper philosophical thought on doing the things we love. I not only believe that we should do the things we love, but I also believe we are meant to do these things; in many ways I believe it is actually our purpose - to spend the short time we have enjoying life everyday, by doing the things we love.

At its core, the thought is this - By choosing to do things we love, we choose to do things we are good at, and enjoy doing; doing this, we align ourselves with our “purpose”, because what more can you call something you’re good at and you love other than purpose? I use “purpose” in this sense of the word, that thing we all search for - that “what am I meant for?” question.
The process is this; If we do the things we love we’ll be passionate at them, passion for anything will lead to working hard at it without needing any outside motivation, because it’s something we already love doing - and working hard at something we’re passionate about can lead to achieving greatness at that thing. Greatness here refers to personal greatness, we may not be better at that thing than the person right beside us, but we will fulfil our personal purpose of being great at something, at reaching our own personal pinnacle of something. Because it’s not about how the person beside us is doing, it’s about how we’re doing.
Now I ask you to think about the possibilities once you reach the personal pinnacles of your talents.

The reason I say “can lead to achieving greatness”, is because there is always the unfortunate possibility of us giving up before we get to be great. It’s hard work to pursue something you love, no doubt about it, you’ll be faced with challenges everyday and you must answer those challenges or you’ve given up. Greatness is - constantly meeting those challenges day-in and day-out, and even during those times we fail at them, it becomes about getting back up, learning a lesson on how we can do it better and taking another shot at it.
Imagine if everyone was great at what they did for a living, and everyone was happy doing it; I believe the world in it’s entirety would move forward and upward, not only at a quicker pace, but at a much better standard. Imagine every doctor being a great doctor, every musician a great musician, every writer a great writer, every teacher a great teacher - everything would move forward; medicine, music, literature, education… everything. Every thing would be a greater version of what it is today, because at the helm of everything would be the greatest people doing it. It’s why I believe the effect on the world of us doing the things we love, is a creating a greater version of the world we live in today.
It is also why, along with believing we should do the things we love, I believe it’s what we’re meant to do; Be great at something we love, so the world can be greater at it also.
That’s just what I think about it.
