I believe in making an impact, in contributing in some way to the general betterment of the world.
It’s funny, when we hear the phrase make the world a better place, we automatically think of some sort of grand gesture which can single-handedly get us all to live in peace and harmony, which I think in some ways is an unrealistic view of how to make the world a better place. That’s partly why, generally we all want the world to be a better place but we don’t believe any single person can make that change, so we don’t do anything about it; and we’re right, no single person can contribute something so grand the entire world changes for the better, that is a lot of work to move the needle just inch.

However, I do believe we can all do something small to impact the world we live in, because if we all carried out a single act to make the world around us better, then by effect it is a better place; better than it was yesterday is better. Specifically, when I speak of making the world a better place I’m not particularly speaking of monetary contributions to causes (although I’d encourage contributing financially to a cause close to your heart), rather, I’m speaking about how your day-to-day life can both serve you as a means of making a living, along with making an impact on the world for the better.
I’ll speak of this in clearer terms; Take the occupation of a musician, if your reason for wanting to be a musician is to be on TV, be a celebrity and make money, that doesn't really sound to me like a dream, rather it sounds more like greed, doing something so you and you alone (or a small circle of people around you) can benefit from it, and benefiting only on a superficial level. Personally, I believe that those types of musicians come and go with the trends, they never really last. However, when your reason to be a musician is to entertain, to sing songs that mean something, to impact your listeners, to make a difference in someone’s life by hearing what you have to say, that is what I speak of when I refer to “making the world a better place”.

The simple act of doing it to entertain another, to give joy in some way from your music - that is making the world a better place.
Because making the world a better place is a combination of a lot of small actions which affects others in positive ways, which makes them feel good, and in turn, they too can affect someone else in a good way, thus, the world being a better place. That’s why they say, when you smile at a stranger it makes them feel good, then they in turn smile at another stranger, and so on.
I believe in whatever we do, we should think - From this, How can I make the world a better place? Whether it’s writing music, creating a new app, writing a book, teaching, being a doctor, an engineer, a construction worker… it doesn’t really matter the occupation you choose; however, we should ask ourselves, how can I make the world a better place, how can I bring it a bit more joy? Then watch the world slowly get better, because it is a gradual process, and we have to do it together, not alone.
I’ll be donating 10% of all Smoke Break’s earnings to a cause dear to me - Assisting single parent families that can do with a little bit of help; To Keep food on the table, electricity running, their children in education, and whatever else Smoke Break can help with.
I’ll be giving some more information on this soon.
